A barndominium is a barn or shop with real living space built into it, part garage or workshop, part home. A log-sided cabin is its own thing entirely: a full cabin build, log-look siding over a steel frame, no wood posts underneath it. We build both, on the same steel-only construction we build everything else on, and that puts us in different territory than a lot of local pole-barn-only builders. Most of them stop at the shop and stay out of the "living space" side of things entirely.
What Makes This Different From A Standard Pole Barn Job
A barndominium isn't just a bigger shed. Once you're putting living space inside it, the project has to meet the same residential building code any house does — structural, egress (how people get out in an emergency), and energy code all apply, plus your township's septic and zoning review if you don't already have those in place. It's a bigger, more involved project than a shop build, and we treat it that way from the first conversation.
A log-sided cabin is a more traditional build from the ground up: a full cabin rather than a converted barn. The log look is the siding, the cladding on the outside of the wall. The frame underneath is the same steel frame every one of our buildings starts with, so you get the look without wood ever holding the building up.

What exactly is a barndominium? A structure that combines a barn, shop, or garage with finished living quarters, either attached or built into the same structure. It needs to meet full residential building code, beyond the standards that apply to a basic storage building. Ours are built on a steel frame, same as every structure we put up.
Can I build a barndominium on agricultural-zoned land in the Poconos? It depends on your specific township's zoning ordinance — ag-zoned land often has restrictions on residential use that a standard residential lot doesn't. We'll help you figure out what your property allows before we get too far into design.
Do I need a septic upgrade if I'm adding living quarters? Possibly, depending on what's already on your property and how much additional capacity the living space adds.
